School lunch box with health benefits

Advice from Oleg Shvets, president of the Association of Dietitians of Ukraine, public health consultant of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Involve the children in preparing and choosing what is in their lunch box. They are more likely to eat the meals they helped make.

Take as a basis for school snacks products that give a feeling of satiety for a long time.

Make canapés and sandwiches from whole wheat bread. It is necessary to accustom the child to it gradually.

Do not use mayonnaise, cream cheese and other store-bought "spreads" in sandwiches.

Choose a sandwich filling with a moderate fat content.

Always add green salad and vegetables to sandwiches.

Always put pieces of fruit and berries that are easy for the child to eat in one go.

Pour lemon juice over the fruit to prevent it from browning.

Instead of fruit or chocolate bars, put healthy dried fruits in the lunch box, replace cakes with chocolate.

Choose low-fat and low-sugar yogurts.

If the cheese contains a lot of fat and salt, then put a smaller slice of it.
