During 3 months of "catch-up vaccination" against measles, 5,641 children of Lviv Oblast (from 2 to 17 years old) received the first dose, and 5,796 children (from 7 to 17 years old) received both vaccinations.
Children need two doses of measles, rubella, and mumps (MMR) vaccine for full protection.
According to the National calendar of preventive vaccinations, children are given them at 1 year and 6 years.
If the child for some reason missed the first or second vaccination, they must be made up.
If a child older than 7 years has not received any vaccination against measles, he is given two vaccinations with a minimum interval of 1 month.
Vaccination protects the child from measles.
Some children cannot be vaccinated because of medical contraindications. For their safe attendance at schools, kindergartens, children's camps, sports sections and other collectives, other children who have no contraindications should be vaccinated according to the vaccination calendar.
If parents refuse to vaccinate a child who has no contraindications to vaccination, then he can exercise his right to study remotely or through an individual form of education (for example, family).
Why is it so important that children in collectives are vaccinated?
☛ This will protect their life and health, because vaccines are developed to protect against infections that can seriously harm a child's health.
☛ In children's teams, there is a very high risk of spreading various infections, which can be prevented only by creating collective immunity.
☛ Unvaccinated children endanger the health of children who, due to serious diseases, have contraindications to vaccination against certain diseases, and therefore can only rely on the protection provided by herd immunity.
☛ If vaccination coverage declines, it leads to disease outbreaks.
If your child does not have measles or other scheduled vaccinations, see your family doctor as soon as possible to catch up. He will develop an individual vaccination schedule taking into account age. There is a vaccine!
