How to act in the event of a chlorine leak emergency

Chlorine is a poisonous substance with a suffocating effect; yellow-green gas with a sharp irritating smell. It is stored and transported in a liquid state. When liquid chlorine is released, it quickly turns to gas and spreads.

What are the main symptoms of damage to the body by chlorine?

Blurred vision

· Burning pain, redness and blisters on the skin when exposed to gas.

Burning sensation in the nose, throat and eyes

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

· Nausea and vomiting

Tearing

How to provide first aid for chlorine damage

The injured person should be immediately removed to fresh air, covered tightly and allowed to breathe water vapor or an aerosol of 0.5% baking soda solution for 15 minutes

· Do not allow the victim to move independently

· The victim can be transported only in a lying position

· If necessary, give artificial respiration in the "mouth-to-mouth" method

· The main means of combating chlorine is water

How to act in conditions of chlorine emission?

· Leave the infected area perpendicular to the wind direction

· Leave the house, turn off all heating devices, take documents and money

· If it is not possible to leave the home, it is necessary to immediately seal it (tightly close windows, doors)

Wear personal protective equipment (respirators, cotton-gauze bandages moistened with 2% soda solution)

CHLORINE IS HEAVIER THAN AIR, THEREFORE IT ACCUMULATES IN LOW AREAS, BASEMENTS, TUNNELS!

Considering its properties, it is necessary to use the upper floors of houses and attics, to leave the infected area on elevated places.
