Does garlic help fight viral infections?

One of the popular folk remedies is garlic. But can it really help you not get sick or recover faster from a cold?

Answer: It is possible, but it has not been proven yet. Numerous articles on the Internet cite various studies on the antibacterial and antiviral properties of garlic or garlic supplements. The problem is that the quality of almost all of these studies is very low, and the number of people who participated in them is too small to draw any serious scientific conclusions from them.

Garlic is a wonderful product that contains manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C, selenium and many other useful substances. It also contains allicin, a liquid that may help a person fight bacteria and viruses - scientists still continue to study this issue.

Therefore, if you love garlic, feel free to add it to your diet. But remember that garlic can be harmful. People with reflux disease should be careful with garlic - it can cause heartburn. And also to people who take blood-thinning drugs. Garlic has a similar effect and may cause blood clotting problems.

But if you want to prevent a cold, wash your hands with soap more often, ventilate the room, avoid crowds and keep a distance from other people.

Unfortunately, there are too many viruses that cause acute respiratory diseases to make vaccines against each of them. But there are vaccines against flu viruses and the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which are the most dangerous of them. Therefore, it is worth getting vaccinated to protect yourself at least from them!
