A mobile phone is a source of viruses and bacteria! How to properly protect yourself?

A smartphone is one of the most "dirty" objects that we use many times during the day. In the morning - we turn off the alarm clock, take the phone to the kitchen, to the bathroom, use it in public transport, at work, and in the evening we fall asleep with the phone in our hands.

After using a smartphone, fingerprints, moisture, grease, sweat and hair, food residues and dirt remain on it. All this is a source of microbial pollution and a favorable environment for the reproduction of viruses and bacteria. Mobile phones themselves heat up and thus maintain a favorable temperature for the life activity of microbes.

Mostly, these microorganisms are safe, but there may be pathogens among them! Smartphones are a potentially dangerous source of disease-causing bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci, Escherichia coli), pathogenic fungi and viruses that cause respiratory infections, flu, acne, erythema, chronic dermatitis and other dangerous diseases.

Health care workers should pay special attention to the hygiene of their smartphone. First of all, this applies to surgical, infectious, phthisiopulmonary hospitals and maternity hospitals. Health care workers, like all people, answer phone calls and messages, move from ward to ward, touch doorknobs and other surfaces, being at the epicenter of the potential risk of infection and spread.

How to disinfect mobile phones?

An effective way is to use wipes with 70% alcohol for wiping. Alcohol dries quickly and kills germs on the phone's surface.

Do not forget about the covers for mobile phones. They can be washed with warm water and detergent. Then dry completely and put on the phone case.

There are ultraviolet boxes for disinfecting smartphones, the main advantage of which is a gentle effect on the surface of the phone due to the lack of contact with liquid. The disadvantage is the high cost.

How often to clean your smartphone?

It depends on how often you use it. However, you should clean your phone twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening.

Remember, when using mobile phones, take care of their cleanliness and personal hygiene! Wash your hands thoroughly with soap several times a day, including after using the phone!
