156,960 thousand doses of polio vaccine were delivered to Ukraine

Ministry of Health

Inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) was delivered by UNICEF Ukraine in support of the National Immunization Program in Ukraine.

❝ The threat of the spread of poliomyelitis remains and has even increased due to the war, as at least 144,000 more vaccinations failed to be given as part of the forced immunization campaign to vaccinate children against poliomyelitis. That is why it is important to provide vaccination service to all children who need it ❞ - says the chief state sanitary doctor Ihor Kuzin.

The delivered vaccine will be distributed among regions for routine vaccination.

Polio is an infectious disease caused by the polio virus that affects the nervous system and can lead to paralysis or even death. All unvaccinated people can get polio - both adults and children. There is no cure for polio, but it can be effectively prevented by vaccination.

Six doses of polio vaccine—at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 18 months, 6 years, and 14 years—provide lifelong protection. However, when scheduled vaccinations are missed, this protection is significantly reduced, so it is very important to catch up.
